What we do

We create and award qualifications for learners in Scotland, the UK and around the world. Working closely with industry experts, we ensure our qualifications give people the skills and recognition they need for their next steps in learning or work. Our independent accreditation function approves and regulates awarding bodies and qualifications in Scotland.

Developing qualifications

We have a huge range of qualifications, developed in partnership with schools, colleges, training providers, universities and industry.

Delivering and awarding qualifications

We manage Scotland’s annual National Qualifications exams, monitor standards to ensure assessments are fair and consistent, and issue qualifications certificates. We also provide services for commercial clients.

Accrediting and regulating qualifications

Qualifications Scotland Accreditation operates independently from Qualifications Scotland awarding body.

They approve and regulate awarding bodies that choose to work with them, including Qualifications Scotland.

They have specific regulatory responsibilities for awarding bodies that deliver Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), 'licence to practise' qualifications in Scotland and other qualifications which are formally assessed and have external quality assurance. Qualifications in the mandatory section of a Scottish Apprenticeship framework must be accredited by them.

Their work helps to ensure that the accredited qualifications which awarding bodies design, deliver and award meet high, consistent standards for learners, employers and the wider public.
