What’s new about Qualifications Scotland

Qualifications Scotland is the new qualifications body created by the Education (Scotland) Act 2025. We’ll review and improve qualifications and services. You'll also notice changes in the way we work and the type of organisation we aim to be. From the beginning, we’ll work closely with learners and educators. We’ll be guided by them and accountable to them. And we’re committed to providing fair and equal opportunities for all learners.

How we work with you

The Education (Scotland) Act 2025 sets out how we’ll work with learners, teachers and practitioners.

Renewed focus on equality and inclusion

We want all learners to have an equal opportunity to reach their potential. Here are some ways we’ll work to make that a reality.

When developing our Learner Charter we will invite learners, including children and young people and parents and carers, to participate in helping us develop our charter. We will also ensure we include:

  • learners who use British Sign Language (BSL)

  • learners with educational support needs

  • learners from economically disadvantaged backgrounds

We’ll also:

  • communicate (speak and write) in an inclusive way – we’ll consider the needs of children and young people, people with educational support needs, people who use British Sign Language (BSL), Gaelic language speakers and Scots language speakers

  • publish guidance on how we’ll assist people with educational support needs to take our qualifications.

Qualifications and assessment

We’re reviewing and reforming qualifications and assessments. This includes things like reducing the number of external exams in some subjects and introducing more digital assessment. Find out more about our qualifications reform work.

We’ll involve learners and educators in developing all our qualifications.

Have your say on what we do

We need learners, educators, and parents and carers to join our research panels.
