Applications open for Qualifications Scotland Strategic Advisory Council
The Scottish Government is seeking new members for Qualifications Scotland’s Strategic Advisory Council, which will play a key role in shaping the future of qualifications across Scotland.
The Strategic Advisory Council, a partnership representing the interests of a wide and diverse range of stakeholders from across Scotland’s education and skills sector, will advise Qualifications Scotland on their needs and views. This will include learners, schools, colleges, universities, employers, trade unions, training providers, parents and carers, and other public bodies.
Building on the work of its predecessor, the advice of the Council will help to develop, maintain and deliver Qualifications Scotland’s portfolio of qualifications and awards, but with a larger and more representative membership. Members' views will be integral to the decision-making processes of Qualifications Scotland.
The Education (Scotland) Act 2025 that established the Strategic Advisory Council makes provision for representation from children and young people, parents and carers, learners with educational support needs, teaching trade unions, business and industry, and further and higher education.
Applications are welcome from individuals with a range of skills, an interest in shaping Scotland's qualifications and from diverse backgrounds, including different age groups, disabled people, and those from varied ethnic, religious and LGBTQ+ communities.
Shirley Rogers CBE, Qualifications Scotland Chair, said: "The Strategic Advisory Council will be central to how Qualifications Scotland listens and responds to the needs of learners and stakeholders across Scotland.
'We're looking for people from all backgrounds who are passionate about education and want to help shape the future of qualifications in Scotland. I'd encourage anyone with an interest in making a positive contribution to apply.
'Together with the Qualifications Scotland Board, Learner and Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committees, the Strategic Advisory Council will bring a breadth of representation that will help us align with the needs and expectations of those we serve.'
Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth said:
'Qualifications Scotland is putting young people and adult learners at the heart of everything they do. The Strategic Advisory Council will bring together voices from across Scotland - including learners, parents and carers, schools, colleges, universities, training providers and employers - to help shape a qualifications system that truly works for the next generation.
'We want young people to have confidence and trust in their qualifications. By listening to those who matter most, we can ensure that every young person in Scotland receives fair, high-quality qualifications that open doors to their future, whether that's further study, training or employment.'
The deadline for applications is Friday 6 March.
